Titan partner and boutique river cruise specialist Uniworld has just revealed a tantalising first look at the design of its newest Super Ship, SS Maria Theresa, which will set sail on March 28 this year, on the line’s European Jewels Budapest to Amsterdam sailing.
The ultra-stylish vessel will cater to 150 passengers and has been inspired by her namesake, the Archduchess of Austria and Empress of the Roman Empire, who was the only female ruler of the famously influential Habsburg dynasty from 1740-1780. The celebrated Baroque style of the time has proved to be an on-going design influence throughout the ship, with the main lobby featuring a marble staircase and a wrought iron, hand-gilded balustrade. Other artistic features in the lobby include a Murano glass chandelier and the impressive centrepiece; a 10-foot oil painting of Maria Theresa herself.
The opulent theme continues throughout the vessel, with shades of royal blue and gold being a recurring feature, along with antique white wood panelling, mirror and silk-clad walls, hand-painted Habsburg coronets and custom furniture.
The ship’s Viennese Café will capture both the Austrian ambience of the Habsburgs and their culinary tastes too, with some of the Austrian capital’s most celebrated delicacies including Austrian Sachertorte, Viennese sausage and Viennese coffee. The ship’s Leopold bar will feature mosaic tile murals, while the intimate 10-seat Lipazzan Cinema will offer beautiful blue velvet love seats for the comfort of guests.
In keeping with the ship’s heritage, her godmother will be none other than Princess Anita von Hohenberg, a descendent of Maria Theresa and the great-granddaughter of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and Duchess Sophie von Hohenburg, who will christen the vessel on March 26 in Amsterdam.
