Last week was quite the week for ship christenings, with Uniworld Boutique River Collection launching its brand new ship, the 150-passenger SS Maria Theresa in Amsterdam.
Fittingly for this most regal of river cruise ships, she was christened by none other than Princess Anita von Hohenburg, who is a direct descendant of the lady she was named after, Maria Theresa, archduchess of Austria, who ruled the Habsburg Empire from 1740 to 1780.
Also fittingly, SS Maria Theresa will take Uniworld passengers on a journey from Budapest to Amsterdam, on which they will be able to explore for themselves Austria’s capital Vienna, seat of the empire Maria ruled over. On the itinerary, the line also offers passengers the chance to explore one of Maria’s former residences, the stunning Winter Palace, located in the centre of the city. SS Maria Theresa will also take river cruisers on the Tulips and Windmills, European holiday Markets and Grand Christmas itineraries.
The luxurious ship’s lavish interior is inspired by the Baroque period and features such lavish touches as antique mirrors, custom furniture and naturally, a portrait of the lady herself, which is the centrepiece of the ship’s lobby. The Viennese café on-board is the perfect place in which to relax and soak up the ambience, while the ship also boasts a swimming pool, spa and 10-seat cinema.
If you want to experience a river cruise on-board SS Maria Theresa, or indeed any of the other opulent vessels, we have an excellent selection of itineraries available, so take a look at what we have on offer then call our Cruise Concierge team to book.
