Riviera Travel has announced the godmother to its newest ship, MS Robert Burns – due to be christened in April this year. Founder of Omega World Travel, Gloria Bohan, will become Riviera’s first US godmother when she is honoured on April 3.
This is a mark of celebration after Riviera’s expansion into the US market and the opening of the national sales office in Connecticut, which will offer 11 itineraries across Europe for US customers.
Scottish roots and US support
The ship itself will be part of Riviera’s state-of-the-art, ‘all-suite’ fleet, which is Swiss operated and truly world-class. She is named after the Scottish poet, Robert Burns, following the trend with sister ships MS Thomas Hardy, MS Emily Brontë and MS Oscar Wilde.
The new ship will feature stunning restaurants and a bistro with an open kitchen, a spa, and wellness areas including a nail salon and hairdressing services. You will also find a small splash pool and putting green on the Sun Deck, as well as spacious and decadent designs throughout.
MS Robert Burns will enter service later in 2018 when she will primarily operate river cruises along the Upper and Lower Danube as well as the Rhine.
Christened to cruise
Known as the woman who founded Omega World Travel in 1972, Gloria Bohan is a successful business-woman, having transformed Omega World Travel into a global company, been listed in the Washington Business Hall of Fame and won the American Society of Travel Agents’ ‘Travel Agent of the Year’ award. She is an ideal candidate to take the role of godmother for this impressive vessel.
Gloria will be given the honour of christening MS Robert Burns in April, when the ceremony will take place in Vienna alongside North American travel agents and VIPs. From here, MS Robert Burns will depart on a FAM cruise from Vienna to Budapest. Bohan said:
“I wish to thank Riviera River Cruises for naming me Godmother of their newest ship, MS Robert Burns, named for the man known worldwide for composing Auld Lang Syne. I am very pleased to see Riviera’s support of the travel agency community, and I am looking forward to participating with them on this exciting inaugural.”
David Clemson, Riviera River Cruises CEO, said:
“Gloria is a pioneer in the travel industry and having her as godmother and hosting North American travel agents at the christening reflects our continuing support of the travel agent community there.”
The ship is due to begin sailing in April, with bookings already being taken for Rhine cruises from Switzerland or the Blue Danube sailing from Budapest. Experience this cruise line for yourself and find your next river cruise with Riviera Travel.
