Avalon Waterways has revealed that it will roll out four-, five-, and six-day river cruises in 2020, appealing to river cruisers looking for shorter sailings.
A recent survey carried out by Sojern’s Global Travel Insights showed that 80% of North America travellers planned trips of seven-days or less in 2018. This was further supported by a 2018 study from Project: Time Off showed that the amount of time taken off for holidays has declined.
In response to this, Avalon Waterways has launched the ‘Your Way’ campaign, designed to make it easier for guests to get away on shorter itineraries.
There is also the option to pair these with the cruise line’s land touring programs, for the best of both worlds. Pam Hoffee, Managing Director of Avalon Waterways, said “With our new Your Way program, we’re making it easier for travelers to extend their river cruise vacation with land itineraries that are perfectly suited to their preferences and budget.”
What shorter-length itineraries are available?
The 2020 itineraries vary from four-days to six-days, and will all take place on-board Avalon Waterways’ two-deck Suite Ships.
A Taste of the Rhine

Heart of Germany
A six-day sailing which was previously an exclusive Christmas sailing for the cruise line. It starts in Mainz, sailing the Main River and Main-Danube Canal where it will then visit Wurzburg, Kitzingen-Volkach, Bamberg and Nuremberg.
A Taste of the Danube
A four-day sailing which is one of Avalon Waterways’ most popular sailing for first-time river cruisers and time-restricted travellers. The sailing starts in Vienna and explore Melk, Bratislava and Budapest.
