Just as it did last spring, river cruise line Avalon Waterways is set to introduce more new vessels to the rivers of Europe in 2015, one of which will be the Avalon Tapestry II. The line will continue its tradition of naming godmothers for each of its new vessels and has recently announced that author Diana Gabaldon will perform the honours for the new vessel in France next spring.
Gabaldon is best known for being the author of the successful Outlander series, which sees the books’ heroine Claire Randall transported back in time to 18th century Scotland. A TV series based on the first book in the series recently aired on US cable and enjoyed a successful season, with a follow-up in the pipeline. Gabaldon will christen the Avalon Tapestry II in Les Andelys, France on March 24.
Avalon Tapestry II will be the fourth of the line’s ships to sail the waterways of France and also the first of its newest generation of vessels, the Suite Ships. Suites on the vessel will feature the line’s all-new Open Air Balcony, which will provide guests with an open-air seating area without them losing any space in their suite’s interior, thanks to a wall-to-wall sliding glass door. The feature is unique to Avalon vessels and the rooms are thoughtfully-designed so as to maximize your ever-changing views.
Public areas on the ship include a club room, main lounge, dining room and for the ultimate in outdoors relaxation, a sky deck whirlpool, with an open-air bistro meaning you can enjoy the views and fresh air while you eat, too.
