Realising the enduring appeal of one of the world’s most stunning natural regions as a tourist destination, river cruise company Avalon Waterways has recently partnered with the Peruvian company Aqua Expeditions to charter a vessel to explore a section of the iconic river.
Naturally, considering their choice of partner, Avalon Waterways will offer an itinerary on the Peruvian section of the Amazon, which will last for 11 days and include a three-night cruise from Iquitos in Peru. Travelling on the Aria, 32 passengers will cruise through the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, one of the country’s largest protected areas, on a trip which will include piranha fishing, wildlife experiences and a trip to a local Magdalena village.
The itinerary begins in the historic city of Lima after which passengers will fly to Cusco to spend four days exploring Peru’s biggest draws, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. They’ll then transfer to Cusco for the river portion of the cruise.
Built in 2011, the Aria is the newest of Aqua Expeditions’ two vessels and offers 16 suites, each with a large picture window. Passengers will be catered for by with a staff of 24 including cruise director and four naturalist guides, ensuring an informed tour of this fascinating region.
