It’s hard to keep up with all the new river cruise ships that are being launched, as it seems like there’s a new one every week. Avalon Waterways has three new ships lined up for the Spring season of next year, and they’ve just announced the godmother for one of the ships – Katherine Grainger.
She’s an Olympic gold medal winner, having triumphed in the rowing double sculls at London 2012. Thankfully she won’t need to use any of her skills when the ship launches with contemporary features ensuring a smooth and reliable holiday experience for all.
Avalon Waterways’ new ships
Grainger will be the godmother of the Avalon Poetry II, a ship that will feature two decks of accommodation with spacious balcony suites. The managing director of Avalon, Alan MacLean, said “We are delighted that Katherine will be godmother to our latest suite ship, Avalon Poetry II, and join us in our celebrations with travel industry partners.
“Being a world-class athlete and having achieved so much in her sport of rowing, Katherine continues to be an athlete ambassador to show others what can be achieved by drawing inspiration from London 2012.
“We hope that Katherine will enjoy being part of the Avalon experience and experiencing first-hand the high standards we set ourselves in achieving our own excellence on water.”
Katherine herself added “It is clear that Avalon Waterways share my passion in creating a winning formula on the water and I am very much looking forward to the christening.”
These three new ships will see the Avalon Waterways fleet extended to eight in total, which is still some way behind some of the industry leaders. However quantity isn’t everything and guests on-board can be assured of excellent dining, contemporary style throughout and a service that is unrivalled.
Keep an eye out for further updates on the godmothers of the other new ships, and in the meantime start having a look at the Avalon Waterways deals that you can book right now.
