- Flavors of Portugal & Spain
Those looking for enhanced experiences can even book speciality cruises where wine hosts are on-board to offer seminars, wine-paired dinners, tasting events, private cellar tours and visits to iconic vineyards. These include Frank Ostini, Kathy Joseph, Paul Wagner, Jody Bogle, Roman Roth and the Wilson family.

I went on one of these AMA wine cruises in 2016 on the Danube. I had a major problem with this cruise. The 'Wine Expert ' was Californian who only knew or had knowledge of Californian wines and she knew nothing of the wonderful wines, how they are produced or the region we were traveling through. When we visited a winery she tried to take over the presentation being given by the head of the winery and gave totally wrong information on the fermentation process they were using. I have went to 'Wine Dinners' where we have 'wine flights' and we have experts from the region of the different wines and even the individual wineries to give us their expert opinion. Why AMA think it is a good idea to ship 'Wine Experts' across the Atlantic to talk about California wine while sailing through some of Europe's best wine regions I cannot understand and would not repeat the experience with them again, though the cruise itself was quite good the 'Wine Expert Added a negative rather than a positive to the overall experience. IMO AMA would have been far better bringing onboard an expert or wine producer to give a talk/tasting as we passed through the various parts of the river. If I wanted to learn about California wines, I would have went to California.
